Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. Longtime community organizer and Brooklyn politician Albert Vann died this week at the age of 87. Vann began his career as an educator and later spent 27 years in State Assembly, and 12 in City Council. Among his many achievements was a successful legal battle against racial gerrymandering in City Council. (Spectrum News NY1)
  2. The NYPD is investigating two stabbing incidents overnight, one of left an 18-year-old critically injured in Brooklyn. Police responded to a 911 at 150 Washington Ave., where they found the victim with stab wounds in his abdomen and arm. The victim is believed to have been involved in a dispute prior to the incident. (AMNY)
  3. The city honored firefighter Stefon Douglas for his bravery in saving a child from a burning home while off-duty. Douglas has served in the FDNY for six years, and was honored by Mayor Eric Adams on Friday. The city's proclamation declare July 15 to be known as "Firefighter Stefon Douglas Day."   4. OStudio is an exciting new bar that recently opened on the border of Bed-Stuy and Bushwick. Owner Fernando Aciar is a trained Argentine chef who has formerly worked at Chez Panisse. (Vogue)
