Three men used a stolen pickup truck to smash into a 7-Eleven in northwest D.C. and steal an ATM early Friday.
Surveillance video shows a blue Ford pickup truck backing up on to the sidewalk in front of the store in the 200 block of Cedar Street NW and crashing through the window before 2 a.m.
"All of a sudden, I heard engines running and then I heard a pop," said witness Lori Brown. "So I got out of the bed, opened the blinds, opened the curtains, looked outand there was a big truck. It was a Ford truck. I almost know the year. It's blue, got some primer on it, and it was pulling up and backing up to bust out the window and all the brick."
Three men dressed in all black, including black face masks, picked up the ATM, put it in the bed of the truck and drove away westbound on Cedar, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
"Those ATM machines they're easier to steal because they aren't connected to the wall like a traditional bank, and they're kind of by themselves," D.C. Police Cmdr. Wil Manlapaz said. "They're not that heavy, so as you can see, a few people can actually pick it up and take it."
"It took them longer to bust the window and the brick down then it did to steal the machine," Brown said.
The whole crime took the thieves four minutes.
Officers found the truck ditched at Piney Branch Road and Dahlia Street NW several minutes later, police said. It had been stolen Thursday.
