Adam Levine addresses fan grabbing him during Maroon 5 performance

Stage Maroon 5 clinger alert!

Adam Levine said he was “startled” when a fan hopped onstage and wrapped her arm around him during his band’s performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Saturday.

“I have always been someone that loves, respects, worships our fans. Without our fans, we don’t have a job. I say that all the time — to our fans,” Levine, 42, told his followers in a video on his Instagram Story on Tuesday.

The “Moves like Jagger” crooner went on to note that critics had accused him of not being humble toward his fan base, which led him to speak out to defend himself.

“To think that anyone would believe that I thought that our fans were beneath us or less than us makes my stomach turn,” he said. “That’s just not who I am. That’s not who I’ve ever been.”

Levine expressed that his reaction was out of shock and not meant to be malicious.

“I just need you guys to know I was really startled. And sometimes when you’re startled … you have to shake it off and move on ’cause I’m doing my job up there. It’s what I pride myself on,” he said.

He concluded, “I need to let you guys know what my heart is, and my heart is that connection that exists between the band performing onstage and the fans. I hope that we can all understand that.”

Nevertheless, he continued singing the song after the disruption. Tiktok

A TikTok video went viral over the weekend showing a fan rushing the stage and clinging to Levine’s arm while he was performing the song “Sunday Morning.” Levine froze up as security removed the fan before he mouthed the word “f–k” and shook his shoulders with an angry look on his face before continuing his performance.

Social media users seemed split on Levine’s reaction, with some saying he seemed ungrateful toward his fans and others noting he shouldn’t have been grabbed without his consent.

“She grabbed him. He was visibly uncomfortable. He’s HUMAN. personal space is a basic right. You can’t tell me you wouldn’t feel ‘icky’ if someone grabbed you without your permission. Expecting celebrities to be above others is unfair and unnecessary,” a third fan argued.

“People need to calm down. His reaction was 10000% valid,” another wrote.

The performance was part of Audacity’s eighth annual We Can Survive concert, which reportedly raised more than $700,000 for the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention.
