Cops on Friday rescued a 3-year-old boy trapped inside an SUV in the parking lot of a Queens Target, and arrested his mom, police said.
The toddler – who was wearing a sweater — was strapped into his car seat and begging to get out inside a red Honda CRV for at least 15 minutes while his mom, 32-year-old Mona Lisa Gomes, was inside the College Point store, shopping, cops said.
A mom and her two daughters were walking through the parking lot just before 4 p.m. — as temps hit around 75 degrees — when they noticed the toddler and called 911, police said.
“The window was kind of opened, and (the toddler) was just telling me, ‘I want air,’ and like, ‘I want my mom,’ and everything. I’m trying to calm him down,” Kristine Vicente, one of the daughters, told ABC News.
Cops swiftly arrived on scene, broke the driver side window and rescued the child.
Gomes returned from her shopping trip about ten minutes later and was arrested for acting in a manner injurious to a child, police said.
Video of the incident posted to the Citizen app shows a uniformed officer holding the tot in the parking lot while waiting for the mother to return.
The child was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.
