Mount Vernon Avenue Repaving To Begin In Del Ray

Residents should expect temporary no-parking signs and detours when repaving work is done on multi-block sections.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Repaving of Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray will begin on Wednesday, May 13 through May 25. The work applies to the street between Commonwealth Avenue and East Braddock Road, but closures will happen in sections.

Work is planned in three-block sections with a goal of completing each section within five days.Residents should expect milling and paving between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. There will be no work on weekends. Work impacts all lanes in each section.

According to the city's project webpage, the 1600 block to 1800 block was recently paved and will not be resurfaced during this project.

No vehicles may be parked on affected blocks during repaving activities. Temporary no parking signs will be posted before repaving work.

Traffic detours may be required due to repaving in sections of Mount Vernon Avenue. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and other signage. Commonwealth Avenue should be used to access cross streets.

Repaving work is weather permitting. The city's website states that the second phase of Mount Vernon Avenue repaving between Commonwealth Avenue and Herbert Avenue will start once the first phase is done.
