East Brunswick: Car Flips, Overturns On Rt. 18 Thursday Afternoon

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — If you noticed traffic around 3 p.m. Thursday in East Brunswick, it was because of a car that took out a traffic light and flipped on Rt. 18 at Edgeboro Road, said East Brunswick police.

Police say the accident happened at 3:07 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 18 and Edgeboro Road.

The car, driven by a 29-year-old Monroe man, was traveling south on Rt. 18. When it crossed through the intersection of Edgeboro Road, it struck the center median. That impact sent the car into a traffic light, knocking it over onto the southbound side.

Another car then struck the downed traffic light.

The Monroe man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, according to Lt. Frank Sutter of East Brunswick police.

The center and right lanes were able to stay open on the northbound side on Rt. 18 as well as the right lane on the southbound side. The wires and light were able to be removed from the roadway and the lanes were all re-opened by 5 p.m. Thursday.
