Columbia Central's two-sport star puts his leg to the test

BROOKLYN -- Micah Sonnenberg's athletic career is nearing its end at Columbia Central High School.

But that's only this chapter, he will have many more to come.

Sonnenberg, a senior, who is a forward on the soccer team and the kicker for the football team, already has a college scholarship offer from Saginaw Valley State and has been in discussion with Division I teams -- some for as many as two years.

His name is already littered across the Golden Eagles' record book and now is spilling into the upper-echelon of state history.

Sonnenberg's 59 goals this season has him tied for ninth in MHSAA history in a season. His 160 goals in a career is tied for sixth all-time and his eight-goal performance in September against Clinton makes him one of just five players all time to score eight or more goals in a single game.

But don't forget, he's also the kicker for the football team. In the season-opener this year, Sonnenberg drilled a 48-yarder to set a school record, and coaches and players who were there felt it would have been good from as far as 55 yards.

But can he kick it that far with a soccer ball?

Sonnenberg joined MLive for a Q&A prior to his soccer team's senior night on Thursday against Hillsdale and he put his leg to the test.

Watch the video above to find out about his recruitment, his favorite record, his soccer ball juggling skills and see if he can kick a field goal from farhter with a football or soccer ball.
