Tornadoes, Hail Possible With Severe Weather Saturday: IL Weather

There is a risk for significant severe weather on Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening for parts of northern Illinois.

ILLINOIS — Illinoisans could see some severe weather this weekend as multiple strong storms are possible Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Severe storms are also possible Friday night as well as dense fog.

The weather service said scattered thunderstorms are likely Friday evening and overnight, and some storms could be strong to severe, the weather service said. Large hail is the primary risk with these storms, and the main threat area is expected to be along and south of Interstate 80, the NWS said.

According to the weather service, a powerful storm system will impact the area Saturday and Sunday. There is a risk for significant severe weather Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening for parts of northern Illinois. There could be tornadoes, hail and damaging wind gusts with these storms, the NWS said.

After storms Saturday, there could be strong gusts up to 45 mph into Sunday morning. There is chance of rain Sunday morning, but then it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 53 degrees.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after 2 a.m. Patchy fog. Low around 45. East wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch are possible.

SATURDAY: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 4 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 4 p.m. Patchy fog before 1 p.m. High near 66. East northeast wind 10 to 15 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 1 a.m. Low around 46. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

SUNDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Windy, with a west southwest wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. Breezy.
