Longtime Vernon Firefighter George Taylor Dies

VERNON, CT — The Vernon Fire Department is mourning the loss of retired captain and life member George Taylor.

Taylor worked with Tower 541, the Snipsic Hook & Ladder company.

Taylor served with the Rockville and Town of Vernon Fire Departments for more than 37 years, fire officials said.

A Facebook post from the department hailed Taylor's service, saying his "leadership, friendship and brotherhood that he exemplified will never be forgotten."

As of Wednesday afternoon, there were 43 comments on the facebook post, ranging from a Vernon Town Council member lauding Taylor for his service the town and other remembering his sense of humor and professionalism.
