MILWAUKEE, WI — Drunken driving arrests in Wisconsin are pretty common. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 28,790 people were arrested for drunken driving in the Badger State during 2015 alone, including 275 people younger than 18.

Yet one drunken driving arrest just last weekend in Chippewa Falls stands out.

On Nov. 18, the Chippewa Falls Police Department posted a video on Facebook. In the video, Chippewa Falls Police officer Scott Schoenwetter is shown standing in front of his police cruiser.

He's wearing a broad smile as he holds what appear to be two Wisconsin license plates. Then, for the camera, he flips them over to reveal the awful truth: The license plates were made from Hamm's beer cases.

According to police, Schoenwetter pulled over a drunken driver in Chippewa Falls over the weekend. When he checked the vehicle's license plates, they did not match the vehicle. He got a closer look and saw that they were fake.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of his fourth drunken driving offense.

It was the Chippewa Falls Police Department that got the last laugh in this case, saying, "they might be legal in the Land of the Sky Blue Waters, but not in Chippewa Falls."

The line Chippewa Falls police referred to is taken from the beer's historical slogan. You can watch this little gem that was published in the 1970s and aired on television.
