Escaped Tennessee inmate turns himself in after a few hours on the run

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

An escaped inmate returned to jail Friday morning after spending a few hours on the run, according to the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Ray Hamm, 45, escaped from the Humphreys County Jail at about 8 p.m. but returned around 3 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies said it was not clear how Hamm escaped in the first place.

Hamm was in custody for theft of property, burglary of a motor vehicle, failure to appear, and failure to pay child support but will likely now face additional charges related to his escape and whatever he did while on the lam.
