Jazz Musician, Freddy Cole, Brother Of Nat King Cole, Dies At 88

The jazz great Freddy Cole, an Atlanta resident, died Saturday, according his manager.

ATLANTA, GA — The late Nat “King” Cole’s younger brother, Freddy Cole, another jazz legend, died Saturday.

The 88-year-old pianist and vocalist, died from complications from a cardiovascular ailment, his manager, Suzi Reynolds, told The Washington Post.

Atlanta resident, Freddy Cole, performed in his brother’s shadows, but his accolades would later include four Grammy nominations, reported The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Last year he was nominated for best jazz vocal album for “My Mood Is You.”

“I love to play anywhere I can play,” Cole told the AJC in a 2014 interview.

Cole, a Chicago native, moved his family to Atlanta in 1971 from New York City. He graduated from the Julliard School of Music.
