Historic Collingwood To Be Demolished: Report
The historic building is located on land George Washington owned as part of his estate's farms.
FORT HUNT, VA — Collingwood Library & Museum, a historic property on land that George Washington owned, will be demolished.
That's according to a report from The Washington Post, which cited an approval to demolish it granted by Fairfax County. It is unclear when it will be torn down, but the county's permit lasts through 2019.
Located at 8301 East Boulevard Drive in Fort Hunt, Collingwood is on the Fairfax County Inventory of Historic Sites. That designation couldn't prevent the property owner from getting a permit to tear it down, a county spokesperson told The Post.

Collingwood is located in the boundaries of Washington's farm system, based on a map posted by the Mount Vernon estate. Washington bought the land in 1760, and one of his overseers reportedly lived there. The most recent building at Collingwood dates back to the 1850s.
The Foundation for the Collingwood Library and Museum on Americanism put the historic property on the market years ago. Before it was sold, the building was home to the Collingwood Library and Museum, which had a book and artifact collection.
