STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Macy's is among the first of many national retailers hoping avid shoppers will pass on the pumpkin pie and head out the door on Thanksgiving to cash in on holiday discounts.

That's why Macy's will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day 2017, according to BestBlackFriday.com.

Macy's opened at 5 p.m. last year on Thanksgiving, and at 6 p.m. in 2015 and 2014.

"So the trend is for longer hours and more sales," said Phillip Dengler, co-owner of BestBlackFriday.com. "While Macy's has not yet made an official announcement, we confirmed the 5 p.m. opening time from seven different Macy's across the United States."

In addition to Macy's, BestBlackFriday.com. says the following stores are confirmed to be open on Thanksgiving Day 2017:

  • Big Lots (hours TBD)
