His passing was confirmed by co-star and ex-partner Katy Manning in a Twitter thread on Monday afternoon.

Alongside several images of the pair, who dated between 1972 and 1974, the actress wrote: '#StewartBevan The most beautiful man poet actor screenwriter husband ❤️& father to @CoralBevan ❤️@Misswendybevan ❤️went on his awfully big adventure .
'He was the love in my life for many years on & off screen & our wonderful friendship continued to the end ❤️'.
In a second tweet, she continued: 'i was commissioned to write a short story for a collection am midway through it & my beloved stewart is a huge part of my story so must continue and dedicate it to him with all my love how blessed i am he has touched life &lit up my heart my since 1971 ❤️'.

Stewart portrayed Professor Clifford for all six episodes of Doctor Who's The Green Death back in 1973.
Katy starred as companion Jo Grant in the sci-fi TV series from 1971 to 1973. Her departure in The Green Death is renowned to Doctor Who fans as being one of the most emotional scenes in the series.
The episodes centred on the Third Doctor's last adventures with Jo, who fell in love with Clifford and married him.
