Jerry Bishop, announcer on ‘Judge Judy’ for 24 years dead at 84

Jerry Bishop, who announced the iconic Judge Judy daytime courtroom show for 24 years, passed away on Tuesday after heart complications and kidney failure, his granddaughter told the Hollywood Reporter.

He was 84.

The Hartford, Conn. born Bishop got a degree in broadcast journalism at Emerson College, before transitioning into radio.

In 1963, he began working at San Diego’s KCBQ, moving two years later to KLAC in Los Angeles with his wife, Velma Joan Leventhal, who passed away in 2007.

Bishop signed on to work with Judge Judy Sheindlin when her show first aired back in 1996.

He remained a permanent fixture of the show until his death. ” Everybody loved him … He had a golden heart and a generous spirit. I adored him and will miss him,” Sheindlin said in a statement.
