Enzo Fernandez pictured in a Chelsea shirt for the first time - with Jorginho's old No 5 - as British record £107m signing is unveiled by the club having arrived at their training ground on Wednesday night via private jet flight to London

Enzo Fernandez has been pictured in a Chelsea shirt for the first time since completing his British record £107m move from Benfica.

The Argentine World Cup winner signed for the Blues on deadline day after the Premier League club agreed a deal with Benfica.

Fernandez flew into London on a private jet, with Chelsea's new signing now unveiled in a series of photos taken at their Cobham training ground.

Chelsea confirmed Fernandez will wear the No 5 shirt formerly won by Jorginho, with the Italian midfielder having left the Blues on deadline day in a £12million move to Arsenal.

Fernandez's stunning move had been agreed in the last minutes of the transfer window as both clubs spent Tuesday locked in talks to try and get the move wrapped up.

The club made preparations for his medical in Portugal and organised a private jet for him to board on Wednesday to fly to England.

At one point, it looked as though Chelsea would fail to get the deal for the 22-year-old over the line - but both parties finally made a breakthrough just minutes before the 11pm deadline.

Fernandez has thanked Chelsea's owners for their determination to secure the deal.

‘I am grateful to Chelsea and its ownership for doing everything they could to make me a part of this project,' Fernandez told Chelsea's club website.

'I’m happy and excited to join the Pride of London, to play in the best league in the world and to compete for the biggest trophies.

'I can’t wait to play in front of our fans and help my teammates on and off the pitch.’

The Argentine World Cup winner signed an eight-and-a-half year contract which could see him stay at the club until 2031.

Chelsea had teased Fernandez's unveiling on Wednesday morning in a Twitter video.

The video contained a ticking clock, his name above the Chelsea badge, fans at Stamford Bridge and ended with a picture of the player himself.

The Blues also changed their Twitter bio to an Argentina flag followed by a trophy emoji.

Chelsea's co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali led negotiations with Benfica for the star, who has been labelled as a 'complete midfielder' by the Premier League side.

‘In Enzo we are signing a World Cup-winner and one of the brightest talents in global football,' said Todd Boehly, Chelsea chairman, and Eghbali in a joint statement.

'We are excited to add him to Graham’s squad and we are sure he will form an important part of our team going forward. Enzo has demonstrated his ability at the very highest levels so we’re looking forward to seeing what he will do in Chelsea blue!’

Fernandez's move to Stamford Bridge comes after Chelsea were linked with the Argentina star throughout January.

Benfica manager Rodger Schmidt had declared Chelsea's pursuit as 'closed' earlier in January, amid claims the Blues had no intention to pay Fernandez's release clause.

The Blues revived their interest in the final days of the window after being told that Brighton's Moises Caicedo was not for sale.

This time, Chelsea were willing to pay the full release clause, but there was some doubt over how many instalments would be required to make the payment.

Chelsea's hierarchy finally reached an agreement with Benfica just hours before the deadline, and managed to get the necessary paperwork done to wrap up the signing in time.

The signing brought Chelsea's total spending in January to more than £323million.
