BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County lost 10 people to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours — making it the deadliest day for the virus since June 5.

Friday's addition pushes the total death toll to 968, according to county public health data. That doesn't include the 44 others whose deaths were linked to the virus but never confirmed by a lab test. They are considered "probable deaths."

Montgomery County continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, according to the latest figures.

On Friday, Montgomery County added 452 cases. That brings the total of cases since the pandemic began to 38,190.

Statewide, there have been 228,471 cases, 4,901 confirmed deaths, and 163 "probable deaths." Of the 1,729 patients being hospitalized for the disease in Maryland, 416 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
