BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Monday night, Buffalo firefighters went to the scene of a fire near Buffalo Central Terminal.

Crews responded to multiple calls about the blaze just before 9:30 p.m. Fire officials also activated a second alarm with calls to Paderewski Drive and Milburn Street.

Tires, debris and other materials were set on fire, officials told us Tuesday morning. The overall damage is estimated at $50,000.

Buffalo Fire announced that investigators ruled the fire was arson in a Wednesday social media post. They are asking for the public’s help and anyone with information about the blaze is asked to call the Arson Tip Line at (716) 851-4515.

Buffalo Fire officials addressed the fire during a Tuesday press conference, saying it took place approximately 1,000 yards behind the Central Terminal at the H&R Construction site.

Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo called the fire “suspicious in nature”, saying that investigators could not find any ignition source at the time.

Firefighters had to use aerial ladders to put out the blaze according to Renaldo, saying it was difficult to reach and that out of a fear of the presence of propane tanks, they were forced to keep their distance.

Renaldo also confirmed that crews returned to the scene as the fire was still smoldering Tuesday morning, and work is ongoing to break down the pile of burned debris.
