10:37 p.m. Car lot damage

Hail has caused heavy damage at a Cullman car lot.

AL.com newspartner WHNT reports hundreds of cars on the lot of Mitch Smith Chevrolet were damaged by the storms. The windshields of numbers cars were busted out by hail and vehicle bodies have sustained heavy damage. Mitch Smith salesman Clint Chapman told WHNT the damage could exceed $4 million.

Athens Utilities is reporting 1,300 without power after the storms went through Limestone County.  Most of the outages are in northern Limestone County in the Leggtown, Elkmont and Ardmore areas. There are reports of broken lines and power poles, as well as trees and limbs on lines.

Latest timing for the storms shows them rolling into northwest Alabama from 4-8 p.m. Central Alabama can expect storms from 6-10 p.m., covering the area including Tuscalsoosa, Birmingham, Gadsden, Anniston and Clanton. Southwest Alabama will see severe storm conditions from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Monday night.

North Alabama will see storms mid-afternoon through the evening, moving from west to east. The storms could bring large hail, damaging winds and a few strong tornadoes.

Parts of the Southeast are facing what may be the most significant severe weather threat so far this year, with possible tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds this afternoon and evening. A potent upper-level disturbance and moderate to strong instability will support rapid storm growth, and dramatic changes in wind speed and direction with height will get the updrafts rotating. The areas of greatest concern are central TN, northern and central AL and GA, and northeast MS.

2:24 p.m. Warnings canceled for now

From NWS in Huntsville: all severe/tornado warnings are currently canceled at the moment. More storms will develop in the next few hours, and that's when we're expecting a Tornado Watch to be issued.

According to the Birmingham NWS, the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Jefferson County has been cancelled and that storm has weakened. Penny sized hail had been reported by a spotter between Sayre and Morris in Jefferson County before the warning was canceled.

Timing of storms:

Alabama is bracing for a round of possibly severe weather today, with the National Weather Service warning of large baseball-sized hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.

Storms are expected to arrive this afternoon ahead of a cold front before exiting in the evening. The northern half of Alabama is under an moderate severe weather risk; the entire state is covered by a severe weather risk designation.

Forecasters expect the line of storms to develop in northeast Mississippi and northwest Alabama from 2-4 p.m. The storms could hit the Interstate 65 corridor from 4-7 p.m. before exiting the state from 7-9 p.m. The timing will be updated throughout the day.

As of 1 p.m., Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm was near Iuka, Mississippi and entering into central Lauderdale and western Colbert counties in Alabama.

North Alabama storm timing

The strong line of storms is expected to enter western Alabama from 2-4 p.m., arriving in Huntsville, portions of north central Alabama and southern Tennessee from 4-6 p.m. A swath from Cullman south to Stevenson in the north will see the storms arrive between 6-8 p.m. with the northeastern part of the state, including Fort Payne, getting hit around 7-9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service office in Huntsville.

Central Alabama storm timing

From the National Weather Service in Birmingham, storms are set to arrive in the west central part of the state from 4-8 p.m. Storms will arrive in the center part of Alabama - including Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, Gadsden and Clanton between 6-10 p.m. The potentially severe weather will arrive in Montgomery, Troy and the southeast corner of Alabama from 9 p.m. -2 p.m.

Conditions are expected to be wet in south Alabama, where a slight risk is forecast for places like Greenville and Andalusia with a marginal risk in Mobile, Brewton and Gulf Shores. Storms in the area are expected to arrive late afternoon into evening, according to the National Weather Service in Mobile.
