Ex-cop indicted for ‘wantonly’ firing gun during botched Breonna Taylor raid out on $15K bond

The fired Louisville cop indicted for “wantonly” firing his gun during the police-shooting death of Breonna Taylor was booked at a Kentucky jail Wednesday afternoon — and released on $15,000 bond a half-hour later, according to reports.

Brett Hankison, who was fired following Taylor’s March 13 death during a botched police raid, was booked at the Shelby County Detention Center in Shelbyville around 4:30 p.m. and walked out at 5:02 p.m., the Courier-Journal reported.

His arrest came just hours after Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced that Hankison had been indicted on charges that he fired his gun into Taylor’s apartment during the raid, and said several bullets went into an occupied neighboring apartment.

Neither he nor any of the other officers involved were criminally charged for her death.

Hankison was the only cop involved in the fatal raid who was charged with any crimes, with Cameron saying Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and Det. Miles Cosgrove were “justified” in returning fire after Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired first with a licensed gun.

Walker later said he did not know the intruders were police officers — though Cameron claimed they announced themselves during a press conference Wednesday.
