If you've been following Britney Spears' ongoing court case, in which she has been speaking out about the conservatorship she has been placed under for the past 13 years (and which sees her father, Jamie Spears, in control of her finances), you'll know she's petitioning for change.
During a recent virtual court appearance, Britney urged Judge Brenda Penny to end her father's role in the conservatorship and said she 'just wants her life back'. The singer also gave an example of a time where she alleges that Jamie forced her to go to a rehab facility after she refused to include a particular dance move into her routine.
"The control he had over someone as powerful as me — he loved the control to hurt his own daughter 100,000%. He loved it," she said. "I packed my bags and went to that place. I worked seven days a week, no days off, which in California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking."
In response, Jamie has shared statements saying he is only concerned for his daughter's wellbeing and that he "loves and misses her very much".
Now, Britney has formally asked the court (via her new lawyer, Matthew Rosengart) for her dad to be removed, and for Jason Rubin to step into Jamie's role. But who is Jason Rubin?
According to reports, Rubin should be more than qualified to handle Britney's estate (which is estimated to be worth $58 million) he's a certified public accountant at Certified Strategies Inc.
According to his employer's website, Rubin has worked as a forensic accountant since 1993 and has been called upon to testify as an expert witness in hundreds of cases. His LinkedIn profile states: "My experience consists of complex matters involving securities litigation, criminal, real estate, intellectual property, bankruptcy, fiduciary and trust litigation, family law, employment law, insured reimbursement of claimed losses and other general civil complex litigation."
Us Weekly also reports that Rubin graduated from California State University, Northridge, in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and that Rubin works closely with Maya Rubin, who has experience of being a court-appointed trustee and conservator.
On Maya's employee profile, it states that she has previously helped restore peace between feuding families. "Maya has successfully facilitated conflict resolution and peace among family members and related parties. [She] is experienced with the elderly memory impaired as well as clients with physical and mental disabilities."
Unfortunately, the legal process isn't the speediest and Britney is now not set to appear in court until 13 December.
