Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge hosts epic motorcycle fight in ‘John Wick 3’

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The glamour, glitz and style of the bloody, action-packed “John Wick” series has a new star: The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

The third installment of the Keanu Reeves-headed franchise, “John Wick: Chapter 3,” promises a wild, violent, eye-popping motorcycle chase and fight scene on the lower level of the Verrazzano at night.

Reeves, a motorcycle enthusiast, collector and designer, actually rode a bike on the bridge during filming, the actor told Collider. Furthermore, according to director Chad Stahelski, “We found a way to put Keanu and ninjas fighting on motorcycles at actual speed.”

“Cool thing about the Verrazzano is that it’s two layers, so we can shut down the bottom and they can still use the top. It’s a rare bridge in New York. It’s just going to have to work in our favor,” said the director.

Glimpses of the scene are available in the film’s trailer -- very early on and at the end. The movie is out now in theaters.

Reeves, the longtime star also known for his explosive roles in “The Matrix” and “Speed,” leads a packed cast that includes Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston, Lawrence Fishburne and Ian McShane.

The Verrazzano is no stranger to major motion pictures. Back when the bridge’s name only had one "z" and a much cheaper toll, Bobby C fell from the span in “Saturday Night Fever.”
