NEW YORK CITY — If you need an excuse to celebrate in the middle of the dog days of summer, National Oyster Day is Monday.

Twenty seafood restaurants in New York City will celebrate National Oyster Day by donating 5 percent of sales August 5 to the Billion Oyster Project's shell collection program.

The Billion Oyster Project works to restore oyster reefs in New York's harbors. The shell collection program works with New York City restaurants to collect oyster shells to rebuild the reefs and keeps the oyster shells out of landfills.
