Man Found Dead Outside Day Care In Western Springs

Police suspect a 55-year-old man shot himself in the head outside the Bright Horizons Daycare in Western Springs this morning.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL - A man was found dead outside a west suburban day care facility in what's believed to be a suicide early Tuesday morning. Police in Western Springs found the man's body outside the Bright Horizons Daycare Center at 4700 Commonwealth Ave. around 6:20 a.m., Western Springs Police Chief Brian Budds said.

The man, later identified as Stephen M. Jackson, 55, of the 4700 block of Commonwealth Avenue in Western Springs, was found laying on the ground in front of the main entrance with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Bright Horizons was not open at the time and will remained closed on Tuesday as police completed a field investigation.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures, but Jackson was pronounced dead at Hinsdale Hospital less than an hour after the incident.

The victim was identified by Western Springs police and the Du Page County Coroner's Office as Stephen M. Jackson, who was not a current nor past employee of the daycare.

A preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated incident and an apparent suicide, Budds said. There's no immediate danger to the community, he added.
