Superheroes: Not always super. And according to the new Amazon series The Boys, they can be downright nasty. Take, for instance, the moment in this extremely NSFW trailer, when a Wonder Woman-powered superhero sits on some dude’s face until her super-strength makes his head explode. That is but one of the gnarly delights featured in the latest sneak peek at the upcoming series based on Garth Ennis (Preacher) and Darick Robertson’s graphic novel. The series, executive produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, takes place in a world where superheroes not only exist, but they are super popular–and they use their influence and power in pretty despicable ways. Enter “The Boys,” a group of vigilantes led by a gruff and grouchy Karl Urban, who are here to reform this ensemble of superheroes known as “The Seven” (wink wink).

As you can see in the new trailer, this series is most definitely not fucking around in the blood and guts and profanity department. Zack Snyder, you say? And The Boys responds “Who is he? I don’t know him.” The new series, written by Supernatural’s Eric Kripke, stars Karen Fukuhara, Anthony Starr, Elisabeth Shue, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, and Chace Crawford, and premiers July 26 on Amazon Prime. Here’s the official synopsis:

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, THE BOYS centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty. THE BOYS is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes. THE BOYS is scheduled for a 2019 release.
