Dolphins’ Kendrick Norton has arm amputated after ‘serious’ car crash

Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kendrick Norton’s left arm was amputated after an early-morning crash Thursday in south Florida.

Norton, 22, was in critical condition at a hospital in Miami, but is expected to survive, sources told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Paramedics had to amputate his arm in order to extract him from the vehicle, a source told the newspaper.

Norton’s agent, Malki Kawa, confirmed the amputation on Twitter.

“With sadness, I can confirm that Kendrick Norton was in a car accident last night and suffered multiple injuries, including amputation of his arm,” Kawa said. “We ask that you continue to pray for him.”

Norton was driving a black 2017 Ford F250 on State Road 836 near Miami when, “for unknown reasons,” the vehicle struck a concrete barrier and overturned, landing on its roof, Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho said in an email to The Post. Norton’s truck was cut off before it flipped, a family friend told the Miami Herald.

A gray 2015 Maserati also was involved in the crash, but its driver, identified as Jessie Pena, 30, was not hurt. Pena’s vehicle had only minor damage, Camacho said.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Dolphin and Palmetto expressways in Miami-Dade County.

Norton was transported to Ryder Trauma Center.

The accident remains under investigation and a crash-investigation report was not immediately available, police said. No charges were immediately filed against either driver.

Miami Dolphins officials confirmed in a tweet that they were made aware early Thursday of a “serious car accident” involving Norton, a seventh-round draft choice by the Carolina Panthers out of the University of Miami in 2018 who was claimed by the Dolphins late last year.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Kendrick and his family during this time,” the tweet reads.

Manny Diaz, Norton’s former college coach, said in a tweet Thursday that its football program was “praying for Kendrick, his family and the medical professionals helping him this morning.”

The 6-foot-3, 314-pound Norton did not play in an NFL game last season, but he was expected to be one of several players competing for a spot on the Dolphins’ defensive line for the upcoming season.
