PIERRE, S.D. — In honor of former state Rep. Lance Carson, a Republican from Mitchell who died of COVID-19 on Thursday, Oct. 15, Gov. Kristi Noem has ordered that flags at the South Dakota State Capitol be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sundown on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, according to a news release.
Carson was one of the 107 deaths due to COVID-19 since Oct. 1.
Seven more South Dakotans have succumbed to COVID-19 as of Tuesday, Oct. 20.
That brings the state’s death toll to 330.
The South Dakota Department of Health reported that the deaths were of one person in their 50s, two in their 70s and four in the 80 or over age range.

The state also reported 621 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the state’s total to 34,457. Of those cases, 8,441 are active.
Current hospitalizations rose by 25 from Monday to 329 on Tuesday.
