STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Staten Islanders looking to score free tickets to The Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of “Much Ado About Nothing" will have several chances this month and next.

The all-black staging of the beloved comedy will run from May 21 to June 23 at the Delacorte Theater, continuing a 57-year tradition of free theater in Central Park.

Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (“A Raisin in the Sun”) will direct the “bold new take on Shakespeare’s cherished comedy of romantic retribution and miscommunication,” according to The Public Theater.

Here’s how The Public Theater describes the production: “In this modern production, we find the community of Messina celebrating a break from an ongoing war. But not all is peaceful amid the revelry, as old rivals engage in a battle of wits, unexpected foes plot revenge, and young lovers are caught in a tumultuous courtship -- until love proves the ultimate trickster, and undoes them all.”

Vouchers to see “Much Ado About Nothing” will be distributed on Staten Island from noon 2 p.m. (or while supplies last) on the following dates:

  • Friday, May 24, at the Stapleton Library, 132 Canal St.
  • Wednesday, May 29, at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, 1000 Richmond Terr.
  • Friday, June 7, at the St. George Library, 5 Central Ave.
  • Wednesday, June 19, at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, 1000 Richmond Terr.

Each person ages 5 and up may receive up to two vouchers good for that night’s performance. All vouchers must be exchanged for tickets at the Delacorte Theater Box Office in Central Park between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. that night. The vouchers are only valid until 7:30 p.m. All performances begin at 8 p.m.

Seat locations will be distributed randomly upon redemption and are not based on a person’s redemption time at the box office.
