In late 2022, just a few months after OpenAI released ChatGPT, the company received an inquiry from Axel Springer SE, the German media conglomerate that owns Politico and Business Insider. It was interested in talking about how the chatbot would affect the future of news, and whether the two companies could find a way to work together.
