STERLING, VA—What, you may ask yourself, is Sierra? Well, according to a release announcing its grand opening March 16 at Potomac Run Plaza, it's an off-price retail store that's akin to "if a sporting goods store and TJ Maxx had a baby." So there you go.

Sierra offers discounted brand-name active apparel and footwear for men, women and kids, as well as things such as kayaks and camping equipment. Says marketing director Gennifer Hobbs: "We believe everyone can participate in outdoor and fitness activities, and want our products to feel accessible to everyone who walks through our doors or shops our site online."

The grand opening for the new outlet, at Cascades Parkway and Harry Byrd Highway, is 8 a.m.-10 p.m. and will include special deal, giveaways, music and more. Sierra was founded in 1986, and is part of the TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods family of brands.
