HS baseball: Excruciating playoff ouster for St. Peter’s

St. Raymond’s scored with two outs in the seventh inning to defeat St. Peter’s 1-0 in the rubber game of their best-of-three CHSAA baseball qualifying series Saturday in the Bronx.

The Ravens advance to Monday’s CHSAA Intersectional first round. St. Peter’s won the series opener Tuesday at St. Ray’s field, 2-1, but dropped a 2-0 decision to Ray’s on Friday.

Nick Chiaia pitched six innings for the Eagles Saturday, allowing three hits, striking out 10 and getting no decision.

With two outs in the seventh, the Ravens got an infield single, stole a base and got that runner home with a bloop single.
