Mike Piazza threatens to attend Dodgers game if Californians elect Larry Elder

Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza issued a last-second endorsement of Larry Elder in the California recall election, throwing his support behind the talk radio maniac in a sluggish, glitchy video.

In the increasingly unlikely event that a majority of voters recall California governor Gavin Newsom, the right-wing personality could be the state’s next governor.

“Get out to vote to recall Gavin Newsom and put Larry Elder in Sacramento,” Piazza said in a video shared by Elder’s lo-fi campaign account. “Here’s the deal, you guys do this and I’ll personally come out to Dodger Stadium and thank all the Dodger fans who voted for him and say hi to a lot of friends I haven’t seen in a long time.”

“Larry Elder will bring back the California dream,” Piazza said. Elder himself knows this is unlikely; on Monday, his campaign launched a website blaming his loss on election fraud. (The election is not until Tuesday.)

The endorsement is in character for Piazza, who supported Donald Trump in 2020 and once compared meeting Rush Limbaugh to having an audience with the pope.

“When I got to L.A., that’s all my friends talked about was moving to California. And now all everyone talks about is moving out of California,” he said. “Larry Elder wants to change this.”

Piazza made a promise to Dodger fans, but with a 25th-hour endorsement of someone who has already said he lost, he showed he’ll always be a Met at heart.
