Knifepoint Robber Who Repeatedly Returned To Park Ridge 7-Eleven Arrested: Police

The 27-year-old is accused of 3 armed robberies in Park Ridge and several more in Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago man is facing more than half a dozen felony charges following his arrest last week in connection with a series of armed robberies, including three that occurred at knifepoint in the same Park Ridge 7-Eleven store, Pioneer Press reported. Philip A. Olsen, 27, of the 6900 block of West Hobart Avenue in the Norwood Park neighborhood, was arrested by Chicago police on the morning of Sept. 14 as they were conducting surveillance on his neighborhood.

Chicago police said Olsen was charged with five counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted armed robbery, and one count of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

Park Ridge police added an armed robbery charge on Wednesday, Park Ridge Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen told the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate.

The additional charge came about after Olsen admitted to detectives he had been behind three armed robberies at the 7-Eleven at 555 W. Devon on July 27, Aug. 15 and Sept. 8, according to Jogmen.

In each case, a store employee told police that a masked man entered after midnight and demanded cash from the register. The first incident was not reported to police until the robber returned a few weeks later.

In addition to cash, Olsen reportedly also stole packs of cigarettes from the store, Jogmen told the paper. (Sign up to get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news from your community in the area. Plus, check out the Patch App in the iTunes Store.)

Investigators learned that Chicago detectives were looking into a pattern of similar robberies on the Northwest Side, including another 7-Eleven at 6000 West Higgins Road, the Herald-Advocate reported. Park Ridge and Chicago police began cooperating, sharing information and staking out businesses in the area their suspect was thought to be targeting during overnight hours, leading to Olsen's eventual arrest.

Olsen had two previous arrests for drug charges, most recently in April 2017, according to Chicago Police Department records.

He is being held without bond at Cook County Jail ahead of an Oct. 6 court date, according to the office of the Cook County Sheriff.
