Two teens killed in a collision on Highway 21 northeast of Edmonton on Thursday night are being remembered as “the most caring” person and a guy who loved his girlfriend “so much.”
RCMP were called to the collision on Highway 21 just north of Township Road 542 around 9:10 p.m. on Thursday. While RCMP said it will likely be several weeks before a cause can be confirmed, early investigation suggests the SUV the teenagers were in was traveling south on the highway when it was hit by a northbound pickup truck driving in the south lane.
The two — a 17-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy — were pronounced dead at the scene while a 15-year-old girl from Fort Saskatchewan was taken to hospital. As of the RCMP news release on Friday morning, the 15-year-old remained in hospital with serious injuries.
The two who died were identified by friends as Alex Ollington and Keithan Peters, or Kiki. Both were from Sherwood Park.
One friend remembered Ollington as “the most caring person.”
“She would stop me from doing dumb stuff. She was the mom of our friends. She was amazing,” one friend said.
“She would always offer rides home, and say, ‘Let me make sure you’re OK.’ She has even offered to tuck me into bed once,” he added with a laugh.
Another friend, Breanna Vendelight, remembered Ollington as a good person to talk to if you needed support.
“It was never a bad moment with her. She’d always brighten up the mood and dance whenever there was music.”
On Saturday, another friend of Ollington’s, Samara Walji, said she was an honest, responsible friend who was like a sister.
“She’s the most selfless human being I know easily – she never put herself first – ever,” Walji said. “She would happily drive even at 4 in the morning – she would drive someone to go give their wallet back if they left it in her car.
“Everyone loved her and the way she’d talk, the way she smiled and she just did everything for everyone else.”
Peters was remembered as “sweet” and “such a nice guy, quiet.”
“He loved, loved, loved his girlfriend so much,” one friend said.
Both were remembered as “people we did not need to lose.”
The driver of the pickup was taken to hospital as a precaution after the collision. RCMP are asking anyone with dashcam footage of the pickup driving on Highway 21 or anything else prior to the collision to contact them.
