Richard Lindheim, one of the creators of pivotal 1980s crime show The Equalizer, passed away on Monday at the age of 81.
Lindheim passed as a result of heart failure, Deadline reports.

'He was watching dailies of The Equalizer til the last day; he was so excited to see the show go into production and was ready to tune in and watch the premiere,' Lindheim’s son-in-law Ezra Dweck said after his passing.
The new iteration of the show stars Oscar nominee Queen Latifah, along with Sex And The City vet Chris Noth as well as Adam Goldberg and Lorraine Toussaint.

The story follows a former operative who uses her skills to help victims of crime with nowhere else to turn.
While previous iterations of the story featured a male lead, first with Edward Woodward in the original TV show followed by Denzel in the films, the reboot does a gender-swap by placing Latifah in the starring role.
Lindheim is survived by his wife, son, daughter and two grandchildren.
