A mother who suffered horrific burns in a house fire in December has recently been told that none of her four children survived.

Michelle Pearson, 35, who was left in a coma after the blaze, is now making good progress in hospital, Greater Manchester Police said.

She has been eating and drinking and communicating with hospital staff, Detective Chief Inspector Lewis Hughes added.

Her children Lia, three, Lacie, seven, Brandon, eight, and 15-year-old Demi all perished in the fire in the Walkden area of Greater Manchester.

Emergency services were called to Jackson Street, in the borough of Salford, shortly before 5am on Monday 11 December, where seven people were initially trapped.

Two 16-year-old boys escaped uninjured.

Speaking a few days after the fire, the children's grandfather Mike Pearson, aunt Claire Pearson and uncle Chris Pearson said they were "dreading the day" they had to tell Michelle the "awful news about her babies".

They described 15-year-old Demi Pearson as a "beautiful young lady with so many friends" and her eight-year-old brother Brandon as "so clever you would feel like you were talking to an old man when you spoke to him".

Of seven-year-old Lacie and three-year-old Lia, they said: "Lacie was a little diva, she loved to dance. There was always music on in the house, and Lacie would always be dancing to it.

"Little Lia loved Peppa Pig. She called everyone pig, so Mummy Pig, Demi Pig, Brandon Pig and Lacie Pig. She even called herself Lia pig. She was so cute and the older ones doted on her."

Three people, Zac Bolland, Courtney Brierley and David Worrall have been charged with four counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and one count of arson with intent to endanger life.
