Jeep reinstated its high-profile Super Bowl ad starring Bruce Springsteen after the singer’s DWI charge was dropped Wednesday, according to a report.
“As we stated previously, we paused the commercial until the facts were established,”a rep for the firm told Variety. “Now, that the matter has been resolved, we are unpausing the film.”
The car company had yanked the ad from YouTube and other sites earlier this month to take a stand against drunk driving — after it emerged that the “Born in the USA” singer had gotten arrested in New Jersey in November.
But The Boss dodged charges of DWI and reckless driving during a hearing Wednesday.
After the news broke that the criminal charges had been dropped, the car company “unpaused” the commercial — which shows Springsteen sporting a cowboy hat as he cruises to Kansas in a 1980 Jeep — a spokesman for the firm told Variety.
The 71-year-old singer pleaded guilty to drinking with fans in the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook on Wednesday and was fined $500 plus fees.
Springsteen admitted to having two small shots of tequila offered to him by fans, and was arrested almost immediately after starting his motorcycle.
But prosecutors DWI and reckless driving charges because Springsteen’s blood alcohol content was just 0.02, far below the state’s legal limit of 0.08.
