Outdoors Calendar: State park programs, catfish tournament among upcoming outdoors events

Events

Park vehicle passes are required for all events at North Dakota and Minnesota state parks. Vehicle passes are $7 daily and $35 annually in both states.

  • June 17: Itasca’s Mysteries in History: The Itasca Biological Station, 10 a.m., Itasca State Park, Minn. Meet at the new Biome Center along Main Park Drive (watch for signs). Info: (218) 699-7251.

  • June 19: Itasca’s 24th annual Butterfly Hike, 1 to 3 p.m., Itasca State Park. Meet at the Forest Inn. Info: (218) 699-7251 or itasca.statepark@state.mn.us .

  • June 20: National Eagle Day: Build an Eagle Nest, 10 a.m., Lake Bemidji State Park. Kids’ event; meet at the playground. Info: (218) 308-2300.

  • June 22: Eagle Day in Bemidji, Lake Bemidji State Park.

  • June 22: Veterans ATV Ride, Carp Pit Recreation Area in Beltrami Island State Forest south of Roosevelt, Minn. Flag raising at 10:45 a.m., with ride starting at 11 a.m. Several stops with raffles, free camping and event is rain or shine.   • June 29: Kayaking the Sand Hill River, 11 a.m., Agassiz Environmental Learning Center, Fertile, Minn. Learn kayaking basics and safety on the river; kayaks provided as needed.   • July 20: Nature Play Date, 11 a.m., Agassiz Environmental Learning Center, Fertile, Minn. Several interactive nature-themed play stations will be set up for children to experience, and caregivers are encouraged to attend and participate with their child.   • Aug. 17: Nature Photography Hike, 11 a.m., Agassiz Environmental Learning Center, Fertile, Minn. Expand photography skills during nature hike. Fishing

  • July 27-28: Cats Incredible Catfish Tournament, Red River in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. LaFave Park in East Grand Forks is tournament headquarters; entry fee $230 per two-person team. Info: iafflocal3423@yahoo.com or (218) 399-3474.

  • Aug. 10-11: Drayton Rod & Reel Rally catfish tournament, Red River in Drayton, N.D.Two entry fee levels --$100 for “Group A” field and top prize of $1,000; $200 for “Group B” field and top prize of $3,000. Fishing hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. More info: www.catfishdrayton.com .

  • June 26: Scheels Mountain Biking Club, 6 p.m. Ride the trails with Scheels experts. Ride at your own page, all ages are welcome and helmets are required. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • June 28: Amphitheater program, “Mammal Adaptations,” 8 p.m.

  • June 29: Dakota Explorers, “Animal Tracks and Traces,” 10 a.m., Visitor Center classroom.
