In a battle between two Patriots teams, it was the defensive side for American Heritage that dominated and paced their team to a 31-6 win over Miramar, Friday in a non-district game at Miramar.

Heritage (2-1), ranked second in Class 5A by the Associated Press, scored the first of its two defensive touchdowns of the first quarter just one minute into the contest. On the second play of the game, Andrew Volmar scored on a pick-six from 22 yards out.

With 58 seconds left in the opening quarter, Jaheim Webb upped the margin to 17-0 for Heritage as he scooped up a fumble and carried it into the end zone from 23 yards away.

In between the two defensive scores, an interception by Daryl Porter led to a 22-yard field goal by Chris Maron. Porter came close to scoring as well, but stepped out of bounds just a yard short of the goal line. Porter had two interceptions in the game.

Heritage quarterback Edwin Rhodes finished with 136 yards passing and two touchdowns, both going to Douglas Emilien. The longest of the two came in the third quarter from 70 yards.

Alton Hammond had a 25-yard touchdown catch for Miramar (1-2).
