J. Geils Band, Depeche Mode, The Cars, Rufus with Chaka Khan, MC5, LL Cool J, Link Wray, The Meters, Bon Jovi and The Zombies have all been nominated at least once before.

Fan favorites the Moody Blues, Judas Priest and Dire Straits made the ballot for the first time. Expect each to compete for the top spot in the annual Fan Vote, where the top five acts will be included on a fan ballot added to the voting pool of more than 900 artists, historians and members of the music industry.

This year's list of nominees features the most female-led acts since 2012. Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe have been eligible for quite some time (the latter since 1963), but were never previously nominated.

Kate Bush and the Eurythmics also earn their first, respective nominations. Both acts are considered highly influential on today's pop and electronic music scenes and artists like Lorde and Lady Gaga.

If past ceremonies are any indication, expect five to seven of this year's nominees to be inducted next April. Considering the ballot features big names whose impact stretches from the 1940s to present day, this could be one of the more anticipated ceremonies in recent memory.
