Fauci’s net worth doubled during COVID-19 pandemic: Watchdog report

Dr. Anthony Fauci’s net worth just about doubled during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a government watchdog report.

Watchdog group OpenTheBooks announced it had received Fauci’s fiscal year 2021 financial disclosures from the National Institutes of Health and found that he and his wife Christine Grady’s household net worth topped $12.6 million — an increase of $5 million from $7.6 million in 2019.

The report comes after Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) pressed Fauci earlier this year as to why his financial disclosures were not publicly available despite him being a government employee. At the time, Fauci became frustrated and called Marshall a “moron.”

The latest watchdog report highlighted how Fauci remained the United States’s highest-paid federal employee, with salaries of $456,000 in 2021 and $480,000 in 2022, out-earning the president, four-star generals, and around 4.3 million other federal employees.

“During the ongoing pandemic year of 2021, the Faucis’ household income, perks and benefits, and unrealized investment gains totaled $2,832,876 — including federal income and benefits of $903,497; outside awards and royalties totaling $1,019,205; and $910,174 in investment gains,” OpenTheBooks’s report stated.

The OpenTheBooks report noted that Fauci appeared to receive nearly $1 million in prizes from nonprofit groups worldwide as they honored him for his work. One example the group noted was a prize of $901,400 given by the Israel-based Dan David Foundation for Fauci’s “speaking truth to power” and “defending science” during Trump’s presidency.

“While Dr. Fauci has been a government bureaucrat for more than 55 years, his household net worth skyrocketed during the pandemic,” OpenTheBooks CEO Adam Andrzejewski told Fox News. “Fauci’s soaring net worth was based on career-end salary spiking, lucrative cash prizes awarded by nonprofit organizations around the world, and an ever-larger investment portfolio.”

The report also found that Fauci’s wife, who is the NIH chief bioethicist, has made around $1.6 million in cash compensation since 2015. Her salary was listed at $238,970 in 2021.

OpenTheBooks noted that it is also looking to understand the amounts of royalties and professional reimbursements paid to Fauci better. Following a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed in 2021, OpenTheBooks received a copy of all royalties paid. However, the 3,000-page NIH document was reportedly largely redacted.
