The woman who died on Wednesday last week after falling 100 feet from St Paul's Cathedral's Whispering Gallery has been named as 23-year-old Lidia Dragescu, the City of London Police have confirmed.

Sharing a picture of the young woman alongside a statement from her family, the police force confirmed that Lidia's death is still not being treated as suspicious.

Last week it was reported that police had been called to the famous cathedral at 10.30am on Wednesday 11th October, responding to reports that somebody had fallen. Upon arrival, paramedics pronounced Lidia at the scene.

St Paul's Cathedral's Whispering Gallery is a popular balcony within the building, renowned for its acoustics which mean even a whisper can be heard all around the dome.

The family's statement described Lidia, a biomedical student from Romford in Essex who was just weeks into her degree, as "the most beautiful person in the world. Her heart was pure and kind, a soul from another world.

"She was an outstanding student and a talented figure skater. Beautiful, intelligent and kind. Her love for us was beyond measure, she was selfless and kind. Everything that she had she shared with us, always putting us first," the statement continued.

"For Lidia, the world has been a bad place to live in," the family said, adding: "We love her and will always love her."

Following the incident, a spokesperson for St Paul’s Cathedral said they were "deeply saddened" by what had happened, adding that it caused an enormous amount of shock for those who witnessed and responded to the incident.

"We hold also in our thoughts those visitors within the cathedral at the time. We think and pray especially at this time for the woman who died, and for all those who were close to her and who loved and cared for her," the statement continued.
