Former Florida coach Jim McElwain's email showed no evidence of death threats, per report

Jim McElwain's email account showed no proof of death threats against the former Florida coach.

That's what a reporter, through a public-records request to Florida, concluded.

Matt Baker of TampaBay.com writes no reports about threats were ever made to law enforcement.

It should be pointed out, however, that because no death threats were uncovered doesn't mean McElwain's story isn't true.

Baker does a really nice job of explaining what he did find.

Per his report:

McElwain received some of the same mundane emails any office worker will recognize. A travel itinerary. A copy of a hotel bill. A note from IT that his University Athletic Association password was set to expire in 14 days. Someone politely suggested he run a fake punt against Georgia.

He did find emails of support, however. In fact, there were four.

Here is one that does mention loss of life, just not the way you would think:

There was a note from a fan named Ron Lemke. He wrote: I am one in the minority that doesn't think my life will end if the team dosent win, don't get me wrong winning is more fun but it is a game. As I tell everyone who whines around me it all looks easy from up here. Please know that among the complainers there are many of us who support the team day in day out.

You can check out the rest of what was found at TampaBay.com.

McElwain and Florida "mutually agreed to part way" last month.

Leading up to the agreement, the former Alabama offensive coordinator was in the midst of controversy he claimed he, his family and players had received death threats because of the team's play.

McElwain declined several chances to clarify his remarks.
