Australian actress Maxine Klibingaitis dies 'suddenly and unexpectedly' aged 58: 'Much-loved' star was known for roles in Prisoner and Neighbours

Maxine Klibingaitis, the Australian actress known for her roles in popular television shows Prisoner and Neighbours, died 'suddenly' on Monday at the age of 58.

Her death was announced on Facebook by the Prisoner fan club Partners in Crime.

Klibingaitis played teenage punk Bobbie Mitchell on Prisoner from 1983 to 1985, and also starred as apprentice plumber Terry Inglis on Neighbours for six months in 1985.

She is survived by her son Zane, reports TV Tonight

'We regrettably announce that actress Maxine Klibingaitis has passed away,' the post began.

'Maxine played the much-loved character of Bobbie Mitchell in Prisoner, Terri Inglis in Neighbours, and many other roles on Australian TV. 

'Maxine was only 58. We send our sincere condolences to her son Zane and Maxine's family and friends. RIP Maxine.'

Partners in Crime clarified the post was not a 'hoax' and that Klibingaitis' death was 'sudden and unexpected' and had been confirmed by a friend. 

'Just to clarify for those inboxing me, the sad news is not a hoax. A very close friend of Maxine's called me late today,' wrote the admin, known as Maria.

'[They] asked me to post the sad news so that Maxine's fans would know. Maxine had many fans. Regards, Maria.'

Neighbours fans will remember Klibingaitis' character Terry for her storyline in the mid-1980s that saw her marry the villainous Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis).

Her run ended when Terry took her own life - the first time a character on Ramsay Street had died by suicide.

Klibingaitis also featured in dramatic storylines on Prisoner with her character Bobby being kidnapped and bashed before launching a daring prison escape.

Klibingaitis appeared in a number of other Aussie TV shows, including Home and Away, The Flying Doctors and All Together Now, throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

Her last public appearance was at a Prisoner reunion in Melbourne in 2019. 

She married television director Andrew Friedman in 1987.
