Trump fighting ‘liberal paper straws’ with $15 plastic set during campaign

Forget the debate between socialism and democracy — the 2020 election is coming down to a contest between paper and recyclable straws.

President Trump’s reelection campaign is calling on supporters to reject “liberal paper straws” that turn soggy and “stand” with the president and “buy your pack of recyclable straws today.”

The website touts Trump’s tubes as BPA free, 9-inches long, laser-engraved with the president’s name and made in the USA.

They go $15 for a pack of 10.

Trump’s campaign manager, Brad Parscale, stirred people’s political appetites for the straws in an email on Friday.

“I’m so over paper straws, and I’m sure you are too. Much like most liberal ideas, paper straws don’t work and they fall apart instantly. That’s why we just launched our latest product – Official Trump Straws,” he wrote. “Now you can finally be free from liberal paper straws that fall apart within minutes and ruin your drink.”

In a tweet, Parscale said “Making Straws Great Again #Trump2020.”

Trump also weighed in on the use of plastic straws on Friday during a press gaggle outside the White House.

Asked about the effort by a number of cities and states – including New York City — to ban disposable straws because of their effect on the environment, Trump said, “I do think we have bigger problems” and then went on to expound.

“You know, it’s interesting about plastic straws: So you have a little straw, but what about the plates, the wrappers, and everything else that are much bigger and they’re made of the same material?,” he said.

“So the straws are interesting. Everybody focuses on the straws. There’s a lot of other things to focus on. But it’s an — it’s an interesting question,” he said.

Judging from another Parscale tweet hours later Friday, the president’s straw donors are draining the supply dry.

“Our amazing recyclable @realDonaldTrump straws are once again available. We sold out our first several thousand orders. Many new donors for 2020. Thank you!!,” he wrote.
