Gala Orba on Friday announced to the Camera she is running for one of the six Boulder City Council seats up for grabs in the Nov. 5 election.

Orba obtained a bachelor of science in risk management, but went back to school in 2012 to learn to be a mathematics instructor through University of Colorado Boulder. She now runs a company called Earthbound Life Coaching to help people make swift career changes.

If elected, she hopes to institute a local ban on single-use plastic products, foster the addition of more women and people of color into the business community and protect the arts.

“We must preserve Boulder’s vital resource of arts and culture as the city grows. New legislation can protect new indoor spaces for artists to cultivate and share their talents,” Orba said.

She worked as a teacher for four years in public and private schools around Boulder teaching pre-algebra through calculus-level courses to middle schoolers up to college students.

“I’ve also volunteered around the world helping preserve the rainforest and I’ve tutored and mentored at risk youth,” Orba said.

She has lived in Boulder 10 years, and is also a dancer and a member of a local circus troupe, she said.

“I care deeply about curating sustainable growth and ensuring our community keeps its core values while encouraging diversity and human vitality for all,” Orba said.
