LEMONT, IL — Lemont book lovers and avid readers will soon have a reason to rejoice as a new children's bookstore plans to open this spring in downtown Lemont.

Three Stories Books will be located at 310 Canal St., which is the former site of a State Farm insurance office. The new business is owned by Sommer Steele, who is also the owner of Mabel's Market at 307 Canal St.

"I went in to see the space and walked out almost in a panic," Steele told Patch.

Steel said she has been thinking of this idea for years, and her customers often ask her for places for families to visit when they stop by her store.

"We need a destination for families and for kids," Steele said. "I just think that this is going to help [all the downtown businesses]."

The bookstore will carry baby books all the way up to young adult reads.

"It won't be rows and rows of bookshelves, it'll be a curated collection," Steele said. She also plans to sell some specialty gifts.

Three Stories Books will have a "modern, Scandinavian feel," Steele said, adding that the store will feature colors like "pretty teals and oranges."

Steele plans on holding events like book clubs and story times at the bookstore, and said multiple people have already reached out to her with ideas for possible events.

"It's really mind-blowing to me what a need for this area this is," she said.

Three Stories Books plans to open in March. Before the bookstore opens, Mabel's Market will hold several pop-up workshops, so that those interested can come check out the space.
