Sharks take bite out of competition

The 16U Staten Island Sharks brought home a bronze medal from the AAU Division 2 Nationals in Orlando, Fla.

The third-place win was an 83-82 thriller against the Philadelphia Storm.

The Sharks, coached by Eric O’Neill, had elimination wins over the West Melbourne Select of Florida, the Charlotte Nets of North Carolina and Aim High of Massachusetts.

But the team lost a heartbreaker in the final four to Boo William's of Virginia, 83-79, in a game that came down to the final possession.

The team’s roster consists of Eric ONeill, Jahbrey MacFarlane, Anthony Rivera, Dino Ivancovic, JJ Letendre, Steve Bruno, Erik Elhamalawy, Rafique Williams, Adham Ghazy and Joel Akinyemi.

S.I. Pythons place 7th in hoops nationals

Last week we reported that the Staten Island Pythons 15U team was getting set to play in the 7th-8th place game of the AAU Division II Nationals in Orlando, Florida.

The team did indeed place seventh by toppling the McMinn Chargers of Tennessee, 72-59, last Thursday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.

In all, the Pythons, coached by Quincy Barnes and Ron Guy, finished the event with a 5-2 record.

The first-year club is comprised of players Sam Martin, Justin Louisson, Logan  Barnes, Ryan Hayes, Nick Velez-Boyd, Derek Ragona, Jaden Ford, Justin  Nazon, Anthony Thompson, Xavier Barrow and Mike Gulino.
