Jeurys Familia’s spring continues to be ugly for Mets

Observations from the Mets’ 3-1 exhibition loss to the Nationals at Clover Park on Thursday.

Louie, Louie

Luis Guillorme earned applause from pitcher Marcus Stroman after a sliding stop on Luis Garcia’s grounder to shortstop that became an out to start the third inning in the Mets’ exhibition loss to the Nationals. Guillorme became a folk hero last weekend with a 22-pitch at-bat against the Cardinals’ Jordan Hicks.

Feat of Familia

Jeurys Familia’s rocky spring continued with a sixth-inning homer allowed to Yadiel Hernandez that snapped a 1-1 tie. Familia has pitched to a 2.00 WHIP in five exhibition games.

Caught My Eye

Brandon Nimmo’s expediency in returning the ball to the infield on Juan Soto’s bloop single to left in the fourth inning helped the Mets get Soto caught in a rundown between first and second.

Friday’s Schedule

Taijuan Walker is scheduled to start against the Cardinals in Port St. Lucie. Corey Oswalt, Jacob Barnes and Tommy Hunter are others scheduled to pitch.
